Overview
This project involved the restoration of 370+ hours of sacred audio recordings of Kyabje Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche's teachings using neural speech enhancement and digital signal processing (DSP) techniques. The goal was to significantly improve speech clarity, remove noise, distortions, and reverb, and provide high-quality cleaned versions of these precious dharma teachings.
The restoration process focused on preserving the authenticity and integrity of the original recordings while enhancing their accessibility for current and future generations of practitioners. Through careful application of modern technology, these invaluable teachings remain clear and comprehensible for continued study and practice.
Methodology
Neural Speech Enhancement
Deep learning-based noise reduction models to remove background noise, distortion, and reverb from decades-old recordings.
Digital Signal Processing
Traditional DSP techniques combined with state-of-the-art cloud GPU infrastructure for optimal results at scale.
Manual Verification
Every processed file received manual QA — random timeline checks for clarity, absence of artifacts, and preservation of original teaching content.
Format Standardization
Multi-step conversion process handling 3-bit audio anomalies, corrupted files, sample rate mismatches, and unsupported formats.
