The Name
"Lungta" (རླུང་རྟ་) means wind horse in Tibetan—
symbolizing good fortune and the spreading of blessings.
Just as prayer flags carry mantras on the wind, Lungta Radio carries our musical heritage across the digital landscape.
Origin Story
Lungta Radio began with a simple need: I wanted my children to have easy access to Tibetan music during car rides, homework time, and everyday moments. What started as a personal solution has grown into a community resource for Tibetans everywhere—especially the youngest generation growing up in the diaspora.
For Tibetan families scattered across the globe, keeping our children connected to their heritage requires intention. Language and music are deeply intertwined—kids who grow up hearing Tibetan songs absorb vocabulary, pronunciation, and cultural context naturally. Lungta Radio makes this effortless by putting our music just a click away.

Why It Matters
Music is one of the most powerful vehicles for language preservation. When children hear songs in Tibetan, they absorb not just words, but rhythm, emotion, and cultural memory. Lungta Radio transforms passive moments—car rides, meal times, quiet evenings—into opportunities for heritage connection.
Part of a Larger Mission
Lungta Radio is part of the broader cultural preservation work of Thupten Chakrishar, a Tibetan technologist dedicated to building tools that strengthen diaspora identity and heritage connection. From educational platforms to music streaming, these projects share a common thread: using technology to ensure Tibetan language, culture, and traditions thrive for generations to come.
